GreenDream – An enviornmental network in Kerala along with IYCN Bangalore, Hyderbad and Chennai is organising The Green Ride- A 1400 km cycling tour.

Why 1400 kms ? This Distance is four times the most important number: 350 x 4 = 1400 km.

While 350 represents the safe limit of CO2 in the atmosphere, the number 4 represents the actions in the four directions : North , south , east and West. The cycling tour starts at 3:50pm (ppm).

This cycling, tour spanning a distance of 1400km, starts from Trivandrum to Chennai , Tamil Nadu through Bangalore. The main focus of this tour will be raise awareness through the way, and raise critical concern among the leaders and decision makers.

While awareness about climate change is increasing, the world has not yet mobilized into action and implementation of climate solutions. We are looking for support to change this reality and create, communicate and celebrate the solutions to climate change during The Green Ride to Copenhagen which will also make students and the general public aware of the role of renewable energy and green technology in developing a sustainable future and economically vibrant India.

By undertaking this Cycling tour, we will lobby for the rights of cyclists and for laws that offer protection to cyclists through dedicated cycling lanes as well as through support for safety regulations. We hope to work with the government administration to bring about change aimed at encouraging cycling in our cities, and also aimed at promoting cycling as a greener, cleaner and healthier mode of transport.
Objectives of Road to Copenhagen Cycling tour-

• To create awareness among people on Climate Change
• To involve and encourage student participation in such environmental activities.
• To harness the power of the media through the course of the tour in order to reach a larger group of society.
• To ensure safety norms at all times with emergency backup support.
• To partner with regional NGOs and organizations and create a climate action network.
• To utilize corporate support for ensuring a successful event.
• Target Audience : Public from all walks of life, youth who could get inspired by our campaigns and lead on to do the same in their regions, people who love to cycle, people who love to raise an awareness on the cause, enthusiastic about the environment, people who could literally make a difference, people who could stand up for what is justified and right, getting maximum youth insight onto the fight for a solution for Climate change and Global warming, public who could welcome such an initiative by the youth and have the same transferred into their lives as well.

Make A Difference (M.A.D) is a youth volunteer network that currently functions in the three cities of Cochin, Pune and Chennai… 312 volunteers teach more than 1200 underprivileged kids English and computer skills in these three cities to enable them to have better career prospects…

These children live in street shelters and orphanages. Without proper guidance, their lives will go astray. MAD makes sure that they have the proper life skills to make it in life. Then MAD tries to get them placed at jobs where they can live their potential…

MAD was recently picked as one of fifteen finalists for the international Youth Social Entrepreneur Awards which is a prestigious award bestowed by the Ashoka group. MAD became the only Indian entry in this competition by in spite of 521 nominations from 60 odd countries. The final winner will be picked by online voting.

Let’s try and bring pride to our country by spreading word about the achievements of our countrymen. To stand up and be recognized in such a multi-faced international crowd is an achievement in itself.

So the day is fixed 26th of December,Friday 2008. — The Grand Alumni Get together at SKPS ! This year everything is set for a grand show! The Alumni Association seems to be very excited about it already. President Mr. Dileep announced the date officially on behalf of the association. Program shedule will be soon put up on this space.

As of now, the program will start by 9.30 AM and will end by 2.00 PM. A plan to include a post lunch session is also considerd. Many of the old teachers (including those who left skps long back) are being invited for this function.

A celebrity guest is also expected. Already the core team has started working on things like invitation, publicity etc.  In variety entertainments team we want more people to help. So any one interested please contact the undersigned. Also the final team for our proposed alumni magazine (with contact lists of all skpsians and teachers + photos + articles + memories) will be finalised on 26th.
